Hi All: As everyone else, I am deeply saddened by the Terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, and on America. Of course Life must go on, and also our little chess world must continue on too. With this in mind, I am going to try to arrange a match between our club champion Yuri Lapshun (& US championship qualifier), and one of the strong chess engines. (Match will be played using the DGT board). All is at the beginning here, so I can't be too specific about any of it. It will most probably be a 1-game event played at a G/60 or G/90 time control. An increment might be set as well. I will need sponsorship, and already have some people & companies in mind. Of course, I will be contacting all the leading playing program companies. I hope to offer our human $200.00 up-front, and additionally, $100 for a win, $50 for a draw. Coverage in Chess Life and/or other chess magazines is likely too. The event may or may not be on the ICC. All remains to be investigated. In fact even the date is not set. US Championship is in January, so it would probably be better to have it before then. Here is what the Marshall offers: * World Renowned facility for match. * Star opponent for a strong chess program. * Likely member & corporate sponsorship All advice and contributions about this possible event are welcome - Especially the best possible date to have this on, in order not to be inappropriate.
