Thanks for pointing this site out, and the documents. StarOffice was able
to read the Excel-format docs just fine.

I once wrote a small script to search my chess database (not a big one,
only about 350,000 games) to find how often each tablebase material
configuration is reached in master-level games. I've pasted results for
2-1, 2-2, 3-1 and 3-2 below if anyone is interested in them (I also have
4-1 and 3-3 but that would make the post long...)

I'm curious to know how often each tablebase file is probed by typical chess
engines over many games; it should be fairly easy to hack the egtb probing
code of crafty or any other free-with-source engine to collate such data.
Has anyone ever tried this?
