Those are actually inviting a hysteresis problem. If you give a bonus of +9 for an unstoppable pawn, it may _never_ promote since the threat of it promoting is just as strong as the actual promotion. I make the uncatchable pawn very valuable, but it _still_ grows in value as it advances, and it grows significantly when it promotes. Otherwise (say) a 1 ply search will just shuffle the king...
