Probably I don't understand something, but on SpecInt 2k P4 is *overall* better
than Athlon. And there are lot of applications where P4 is better *on the same
clock speed*. You can go to the www.spec.org and check the numbers yourself. For
example, on GCC P4 1.4GHz *base* number is 25% better than Athlon 1.4GHz *peak*
number.

SpecInt2k for P4/1.4GHz and Athlon/1.4GHz are roughly equivalent -- 499 vs 495,
but you can buy 2GHz P4 *today*, without any pre-ordering.

Crafty just happened to be the unfortunate application that runs worse on P4
than on the Athlon *unmodified*. But you don't have that restriction, you can
modify the source.
