John, >How many people who know nothing about chess wouldbuy Fritz over Chessmaster? I agree that this is 100% true. Most people who have bought CM don't even know that Fritz exists. This means that The King sold at a higher price than CM would not cannibalise the sales of ChessMaster. So how about this for a solution - release a version of The King for Fritz. Calculate how much you need to make per copy of CM, say $20, ask the nice folks at ChessBase if they'd sell the engine and give you a cut (say 30%). Then let ChessBase sell The King for ChessBase / Fritz for $60 and everyone is happy. The enthusiasts are happy with the 'serious' engine, Ubi Soft and ChessBase are happy as they are making more money, while the average punter will be happy buying the cheaper CM. What's the problem with this solution - it could also be done with minimal effort. Steve Maughan
