Rxc5 goes into a lost ending with even material. >Any other rook move drops a pawn, which looks just as bad. It thinks either >case is probably losing... The pawn endgame is dead lost, which Crafty recognizes. The rook endgame is difficult and White has a lot of drawing chances. In fact, most probably it is a draw, particularly after Kxe5. White has a very active rook and there are only two pawns left in the king side, the less the better for the defense. The Black rook is in an awkard situation (in front of the pawn). The only good thing for black is that it has an active king but that's it. The advantage for black is certainly <1.0 pawns. It needs some analyisis because I think that black can try something else than Kxe5. If it can reach a formation with g6-h5-Re6-b6 then Black has great advantage. I would certainly want that my engine plays Rb8 rather than Rxc5. I will collect much more points in that way. Regards, Miguel
