Hi Georg.
I've been working on Chess Tiger since 1981, and in a serious way since
1992.
The current 32 bits version (Chess Tiger 11.4) is not publicly
available, but the 16 bits version is.
You can find more information about Tiger and even download a "light"
version at:
http://www.forum64.com/
This light version comes in french and in english. By default it is in
french, and you will have to click on "Options", then on "Langue" to be
able to switch to english.
The strength of the light version has been considerably decreased on
purpose, so you may be disappointed a little bit...
If you like the "light" version and its interface, you can order the
real "Chess Tiger 10" by using a link in the above mentioned page.
To have an idea of how the new 11.4 version plays, follow the games
posted by Thorsten. He was operating Tiger in Paderborn (Feb 98), and is
able to appreciate some moves better than me. :)
You can find everything about this tournament (including the games) at:
http://www.uni-paderborn.de/~IPCCC/index98.html
Tiger is currently competing in Torsten Schoop's tournament. Torsten
posts the results here after each round. This tournament involves many
of the top programs, and so far Tiger does not so bad (he is in the
middle pack).
More on Torsten's tournament at:

(follow the "Tournament swiss 98" link)
Tiger is especially strong in blitz and rapid games. I've played a match
against Rebel 9 on my K5-100MHz (switching back and forth under W95),
16Mb hash for Tiger, 13Mb for Rebel:
Blitz 5mn
Tiger 11.4 / Rebel 9 +13 =8 -11
Which is a clearly undecided match. I should play more games to have
better data.
I guess my program is not as strong in slower time controls, but this
has still to be demonstrated. A couple of volunteers are currently
playing games -manually-, just to be sure Tiger is weaker.
I played 4 games against Rebel9 in 30mn/game (same computer and settings
as above), and the result is:
30mn/game
Tiger 11.4 / Rebel 9 +1 =2 -1
From which you cannot draw any conclusion, of course...
So far, Tiger still has a lot of weaknesses, but I won't say more on
this subject. :)
