I'm no chess programmer but I'd expect the positional value of a Rook that pins a Queen to a King would be greater than the positional value of a Rook at a1 while there is a Pawn at a2 and a Knight at b1. I've been reading, and enjoying, but certainly not fully understanding, the ICCA Journal since I was about 8, and I thought the pursuit of artificial intelligence was still a part of chess programming.
