Yes, one position per line, in an ascii file.

I found a description of the EPD standard included in this description of PGN:

(see chapter 16.1: FEN)

PS.: Btw. the message board software here displays a diagram from an EPD string,
if you put [D] in front of it, for example
[D]rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1
