The difference in elo between 96 and 192Mb of hash tables (assuming long time
controls so the tables get saturated) is approximately 5 elo points.
Forget about being able to measure such a small difference in playing strength,
so yes, 96Mb is enough.
I do not know why you cannot use 192Mb on your system. Maybe it is because 192Mb
of HT does not leave enough room for the OS on your 256Mb computer.
If it is because of the Fritz interface (as somebody else suggested), then you
should send your question to ChessBase.
