I'd like to increase the number of tests that Gian-Carlo selected for a tactical suite of an increased difficulty than WAC. I downloaded the test suite WCSAC from Dann's ftp site and found that most of the positions were uninteresting, or wrong or have cooks or were not suitable for a tactical suite for several reasons. From 1001 I weeded out a lot and ended up with potential 44 interesting positions. First, I tested them with my program Gaviota (not very strong) at a minute per position on a K6-II 400 mhz. I selected the positions that were not solved. Those were abot a hundred. From those, I manually (using the help of Crafty in analysis mode and epd2diag) checked them and I discarded the ones I did not like for many reasons. Cooks, transpositions, if the solution could be found for the wrong reasons etc. etc. I would like to know if you check these positions with your powerful computers and programs to verify they are good positions to test. These are the first 10 positions. I will post the rest but I think I will be better to focus first on few of them Is that a good idea?
