Last week in the newsgroups rgcc and CCC, some problems and hints have
been reported to me regarding the co-operation of Comet and Winboard.
In order to account for the corresponding suggestions, Comet for
Winboard has been modified in the following way:
1. Any output of Comet during move search to the debug window (stdout
device in C-language) will be omitted. I have learned that such
output could disturb the functions of Winboard (though it's unclear
to me if it really did).
2. Comet for Winboard will now read an initialization file (COMET.ICS)
at start time. Maximum size of hash table, pondering, selectivity,
and use of book can be modified this way.
Since I assume that in most cases there is no problem at all with Comet
for Winboard (as I heard from a couple of friends), I will not update
the Comet version on the freeware page of Gambit-Soft.
Should however someone have a problem with the Comet Winboard version
downloaded from Gambit-Soft, then I will reply to a corresponding
email message to me and attach the updated Comet for Winboard (including
a COMET.ICS sample file). Note that this would be an update to the
Gambit-Soft download (book not included).
After all, I would like to thank for problem reports and suggestions.
Best regards,
Uli
