Hi all, Being an avid computer chess enthusiast etc, I recently decided that the time has come to invest in a sensory chess board to interface with the PC. I was a little taken aback by the pricing, however. It looks like Novag and DGT have the field to themselves, with TASC having discontinued their offering. But oh, the prices! I can't get anything for under about £300. Now I can't believe that it would cost anywhere **near** that to build one of these things. If any of you are handy with soldering irons and know a thing or two about RFID or whatever close-proximity-sensor technology might be appropriate, I'd be fascinated to learn what the expensive parts are. I would also be keen to be involved in developing plans/kit for a DIY board of this nature, preferably open-source. I know electronics like the back of my kidney, so I probably can't contribute much on the hardware side, but I am keen to learn and I would be happy to write interface code (for ICC/FICS, WinBoard, Fritz/Chessbase, whatever else people are keen on) to the thing. If this is interesting to you and you have more clues on the electronics thing than me, please feel free to contact me directly (email in my profile) or by responding here. Cheers Adam
