I didn't catch all of it, but I believe that the excuse was based on the intended use for WinBoard engines IIRC. The main emphasis was providing the opportunity to use WinBoard engines for analysis. Not for engine matches as such. But I think Thomas Mayer would know better, and in much greater detail, because he was the one discussing the topic with Wüllenweber. Regards, Mogens
