I don't think you need DirectX to run Fritz. If you have problems with upgrading DirectX you could return to a previous install by removing it with DirectXbuster: http://www.directxbuster.de/ I suspect in most cases an upgrade to a newer (final) version of DirectX is the best to do. I have always upgraded DirectX - and never encountered any problems. Small wonder - given the fact that I never ran anything else than a consumer Windows disaster version. J.
