I just read in the Spanish paper El País that the module Fritz 5 for ChessBase 7 running on a PII333 with 128 MB RAM will be used by Kasparov and Topalov in the match of 6 games (all at game in 60 minutes) they will play in León, Spain, from the 9th to the 12th of June. What is new in this match is that the chess program will be used as a helping tool to avoid tactical mistakes. I am sort of skeptical about this experiment. Even in these faster than normal games, I think Kasparov, and probably also Topalov, is better at tactics than any program running on a micro. It may easily happen that Fritz gives a negative evaluation to a move that Kasparov or Topalov saw deeper and better, in which case double checking with Fritz can be quite time consuming. Besides this, I wonder to what extent punching the moves and consulting the program won't be more distracting than helpful. In any case, it seems an interesting experiment. Enrique
