Everyone seems to have different results with these.  The last two WD
brand drives that I bought are now paperweights, while the last
two Maxtor brand hard drives(30gig, 7200rpm) that I bought haven't
died yet despite my useing them for tablebase builds for months
at a time.

I expect there are others who have had the opposite results.
