I only run the Optimised Crafty from dos, well I use a winboard adaptor.  The
games I play are all auto232.  Remi Coulom wrote an adaptor that allows all of
us who want to, to play winboard engines auto232, against any other 232
capalable program.  So it is the adaptor from Remi that does the work.  I just
set the time of each run of games.  Crafty is playing a varied number of
opponants.  I post these every so often.

The best place to run Crafty and play against it is Winboard.  IMHO

It would be nice to see an UCI version of Crafty, so that this could run in
Shredder 5 gui. Now that would be way cool!!
