Another solution: play against some weaker program.

How to make engines weaker:

Playing moves which are not among the strongest ones in a position, but
neither are too weak. Just some dull moves giving tempos to opponent.

Limiting thinking time. E.g. 95% of the move time the program does nothing and
then uses the rest 5% for searching and calculating.
