I to have found that Fritz 5 plays strong with small hash tables. When I
stop my match with Junior 4.6 vs Fritz 5, Fritz was leading +4 =4 -3.
The time control was 40 moves in 6 hours. I had set the hash size at 20
megs for both programs. Amir ban has said his program was not that hash
sensitive. The Fritz 5 manual as I understand it says that it is very
hash sensitive. Saying if the hash is full, more think time will help
very little. Fritz 5 will fill up 20 megs of hash in about 20 to 40 sec.
So I don't see how Fritz 5 could play as well as it did. If the Fritz 5
manual is correct.
