Subject: Dutch Open: 4 leaders after the first weekend

Hi all,

Here are some impressions from day 2:

In round 4 the 2 leaders Rebel and Chess Tiger had to play. After an equal
opening Rebel started to play strange moves and lost. Just an offday for Rebel?
I don't know! With computers you never know..... In this round Fritz was pretty
lucky not to lose against Isichess. The score was - I believe - already plus 3
in favour of Isi, but it didn't manage to win.
In round 5 Rebel won a hard fight against Isichess, while Tiger seemed to be
winning against Spider Chess. But.... It didn't happen! Although the resulting
ending seemed to be winning easily for white, the programs disagreed and in the
end they were right. But it should be a win, shouldn't it?
In round 6 you should replay the game Diep - Rebel (see www.computerschaak.nl
for the games). Rebel played a very strong novelty a7-a6!! improving on a game
by Ivan Sokolov, that was won by White in just 30 moves. Some crazy variations
appeared on the board, with a knight sac on g2 and a white pawn reaching e7,
attacking 2 black rooks. After the skirmish Black had a clear advantage, but
made some second rate moves, allowing Diep to escape. And what about Tiger? Just
mere silence! A bad, bad game against The King was lost very quickly. Leaving
the decision for the winner open again: There are now 4 leaders, all on 4,5
points: The King, Fritz, Rebel and Tiger.
At least this gives rise to an exciting 2nd weekend, but you will understand I'd
rather had my 1 point lead back!

Ciao, Jeroen
