By all accounts, Chessmaster 8000 runs fine on XP. The question that you ask
"why this Win2K and not this other one" is one of those questions that the
development team never got around to answering, mostly because the program did
not have to support Win2K and it was clear from the "bug reports" that this was
a problem that only occurred on Win2K/NT.

So, I think the safest answer is that it almost certainly will work for XP. If
it doesn't, then the NEXT version DEFINITELY will work (because it has to). But,
that doesn't guarantee that it will work for Win2K/NT.
