At the moment are the following GUIs compatible to UCI: Shredder 5.0 Chess-Assistant 6.1 Chess Academy comming soon at I think much more other commercial GUIs. More information are available on the webpage by Aaron Tay in UCI forum and all what you search can you find in my News Ticker if you look on the actual and older pages. Engine protocols: 1. Free WinBoard protocol by Tim Mann 2. Chess-Base commercial but not free protocol 3. Free UCI protocol by Stefan Meyer Kahlen and Rudolf Huber 4. Chess-Partner commercial protocol, I believe by Lex Loep 5. An own protocol for Chess Academy 6. An own protocol for Chess Assistant 7. MCS protcol by Stefan Meyer Kahlen The most populare protocol is WinBoard and I believe end of the next year also very populare UCI. The Chess-Base protocol is not free but much interesting engines are here free (Crafty, Comet, Faile, InmiChess, Goliath Light, EXchess, not more). But the most engines are running under Chess-Base (~ 20) Under WinBoard (~ 140, 110 are free) Under UCI (~ 15 - 20, the most are commercial). Sorry for my bad english. Best Frank
