I have found that Crafty, Yace, comet,or phalanx suit my need for beatings very nicely. as for stability I have never crashed Crafty, Yace, or phalanx, but I have crashed tiger 12.0e, fritz 6.0, and chessmaster 5000 under winblows (sorry just could not help myself)
