Same playing >strenght? Other features? The standard F7 engine has a new additional set of engine parameter settings, including piece values etc. The No MMX engine has the settings known before. Both use the tablebases of course. So far, tests have shown (or seem to indicate at least), that the No MMX engine plays more successful against other engines. See for example these results provided by Gerhard Sonnabend: http://f23.parsimony.net/forum50826/messages/28538.htm I think it is too early to say that F7 "No MMX" in generally stronger in computerchess than the standard F7 engine; we'll have to wait for results from faster CPUs and longer time controls (I'd be surprised if they are significantly different though... but I don't know). Gerhards tests were 30 Min.-games at K6/350, Noomen opening positions. I think that the MMX using code which the standard engine has in addition (or alternatively) to the No MMX engine, may contain the parts of the engine designed to play better against humans. This is only an assumption, maybe only Frans Morsch could answer this. Probably it has a much larger evaluation function than the No MMX version, which would be a possible explanation for the lower node rate. In other words: I don't know... :o) Regards, M.Scheidl
