In one set of tests (sorry, I forget who originally posted them), the NoMMX
version did better against EVERY other engine (sometimes MUCH better):

Fritz 7 Standard NoMMX
vs Chess Tiger 14.0 05.0 – 11.0 07.0 - 09.0
vs Comet B22 11.0 – 05.0 13.0 - 03.0
vs Crafty 17.13 09.0 - 07.0 11.5 - 04.5
vs Gambit Tiger 2 04.0 - 12.0 06.0 - 10.0
vs Hiarcs 7.32 06.5 - 09.5 08.5 - 07.5
vs Junior 7 04.5 - 11.5 08.5 - 07.5
vs Nimzo 7.32 09.0 - 07.0 10.0 - 06.0
vs Nimzo 8 07.5 - 08.5 11.5 - 04.5
vs SOS (03/2000) 10.0 - 06.0 14.5 - 01.5
vs Shredder 5.32 07.0 - 09.0 07.5 - 08.5
------------------------------------------------
Total 73.5 – 86.5 98.0 – 62.0

This is a dramatic difference in favor of the NoMMX version (under 46% score
versus over 61% score). I believe it was run on modern hardware (i.e., with MMX
support). I don't remember the time controls.
