I found a nice 1.7 GHz Athlon XP system with 256M of RAM, I think the S kind not the rambus. With this system I'll get a flat-screen LCD moniter. Total price is $1450. The place is MicronPC.com. Since I don't venture into the computer world much, I'm only comfortibly familiar with Gateway (which my wife and I use now), and Dell. Does anyone have any opinions on the reliability of this company? PS: I'll get the Windows XP operating system. I hear this program is massively bloated with "stuff". How much of my RAM will I lose to the operating system? Should I get more RAM? An upgrade to 512 will cost $200, which I don't fancy very much. PPS: I don't know whether I'll be using HIARCS in the Fritz interface, or Fritz7. I would imagine if I use the former I probably won't need the extra RAM since it's a slow searcher.
