Most of the PC vendors simply assemble parts that they buy from (mostly) Taiwanese manufacturers. It is more important to know what components are going into the system than it is to know the brand of the PC. Some good motherboard brands: Asus Aopen (there are others, but these are my faves). Some good video card manufacturers: Matrox (good, but pricey, and not suited for heavy 3-D gaming), Boards based on the Nvidia reference design. A good cheap sound card: SBLive! My advice would be to stick with Win2k. But this is mostly for idealogical reasons. BTW, I thought that Micron was getting out of the PC business. Can anyone corroborate? >PPS: I don't know whether I'll be using HIARCS in the Fritz interface, or >Fritz7. I hope this doesn't confuse things too much - but I have purchased two systems from this company: www.micronux.com. You can pretty much get whatever you want, at a decent price. I like their quick and easy syetm configuration. Bob
