Go up one level in this thread

Only reason i didn't play quad Xeon that game was because i am not allowed to restart my program with EGTBs turned on when in endgame, because 3.0.2 version which i had with me didn't allow it. some older version does have EGTBs, but that's 4% slower because of other compile and that's peanut slowdown when you start accessing EGTBs. Also i have played for years in textmode, and now this guy doesn't. I am 100% sure you would forfeit me in a game when you get the chance, "ah i can beat DIEP, let's GO for it". I even remember an email you recently shipped me where i asked whether playing games against my tournament book was interesting: "i would beat you in tournaments then" was the fair answer. So not a hair in my mind is going to take a restart risk when i play Quark with you as operator. I am 100% sure you would have taken the point. Of course i will too. Secondly, so many people have forfeited because of details and never this caused upset at the internet, now suddenly this forfeit does because Bas who is plain stupid, even forgot what i told him during the game when i arrived there (he asked me why i moved so fast around move 40 already, and when i answerred that time would get important because 90 0 is nothing more than a bit longer blitz level when programs have a long endgame, then he still didn't get the point). Take me against Junior in wmcc2000. I blamed myself bigtime later. Never i will blame Amir for taking advantage. He would be pretty stupid if he didn't. The only stupid guy that game was me. I forfeited in a position with a pawn MORE and 0% winning chances for Junior, Amir already had sooner in the game begged for a draw even and any moment in a rook endgame with 2 versus 1 pawns i could get that draw. However i of course couldn't get it when it was unclear whether i would forfeit. I didn't ask even. I knew the answer i would get obviously. There are some fair rules when you crash, or have other problems. Usually at the start of the game that's no problem. GCP describes some amateur problem he had restarting the engine when still in openingsbook. Usually people allow that. I have allowed that a lot too. But when i just get back from national competition, i lost a game from some guy called Possajennikov or whatever. I lost that game because i wanted to win (so did my opponent). Now i go back to the chess beginners arena where a guy called Bas Hamstra starts begging complaining and whatsoever to restart his program. Why the hell would i allow him? He just raised the issue here, now someone who is going to profit from whatever rule there is on earth, is going to complain that i am not fair? I even remember you profitted from a problem in Pesce book against someone in paderborn! Wasn't it Quark - Pharaon where you had a certain line prepared against the pesce book which you also once got from Carlos, where you profited with 1.b4? Now i would *never* do that. If i get in confidence the Pesce book i am not going to profit from the fact that i know that pharaon isn't prepared for some stupid 1.b4 line which is inside it! Most amazed i am about the big discussion a single time win gives here. Bas doesn't care. He loves war over peace as we all know, but i'm really amazed that a german guy who has given me the impression always to profit from whatever, to now raise this discussion! >Hi Johan, > >> That shouldn't be an excuse, you should be aware of such things when you're >> using the interface. It is not that it makes me angry that Bas loosed on time here, it >is that Vincent did not allow him to adjust his clock - and there WAS a way to >adjust the clock. So Vincent is no gentleman, that's the simple fact. In this >game he shows the face of an ugly fighter. Of course i fight for my points. But to call me ugly that's not very fair!! This is how chess is, this is how chess goes, and i would have won that game anyway. And it's STUPID to assume that i would have given a commercial guy a draw here. I always play on such positions. Remember 1997 paris, where i played on against Cstal until Jaap wanted to arbitrate it to a draw. It's completely idiotic to assume that i would allow my opponent to have more time for his engine in a game, because he was so stupid to only start with 10 minutes operator time in winboard without a way to correct time. 90 0 level is completely different from 40 in 2 level. In 90 0 always in the endgame time is a critical issue. To shut your eyes for it and even call me ugly is not very nice! You don't know what 90 0 level is in that case!! >>Regarding the sportsmanship, expect those it at the chessclub, not during >>tourneys. I'm sure Vincent isn't the only one who would have claimed the win on >>time, just like there are people in normal chess tourneys who will. > >Yes, it's a shame that so many act like that. Understand me right - I have no >problems with claiming win because of time, but I have problems with not >allowing to adjust the clock. I did allow adjustment on time. He didn't have made arrangements to adjust it. Who is so stupid then to let him reboot his engine? Suppose your engine only accept FEN positions, should i allow you to stop the clock and restart your engine each time a move has been made? No of course not. Everyone knows time is a critical factor. I fell off my chair that he hadn't hacked winboard to correct the time. In 40 in 2 level this still would not be a problem. But in 90 0 where time is completely CRUCIAL element of the game, as in computer-computer games i always get near 50 moves or more, there i'm amazed that some guy from germany is criticizing me to win on time. My advice is: play some blitz tournametns yourself and then report back what you think of winning on time! You're completely not-realistic here! And yes, if your flag falls against me i will also claim time. don't worry about it. No i don't sneaky walk away with the intention to not warn my opponent. Bas is dead wrong that i didn't call him during the game. I did in fact the few times that he walked away (i walked away way more moves) call him. That's all irrelevant of course when you forfeit. he even forgot it. Amazingly. But most amazing is the naive and completely idiotic attempt here from this guy from Quark who suddenly seems to be completely different as i know him, just in order to call me ugly!! >Greets, Thomas
