Hi Eran,

Let me share my opinion with you on the differences of Rebel9 and
Tascbase 2.1 but first; they have a lot in common, including their
price, see Gambitsoft.

Ok, their differences as I see it. Rebel is of course up to date with
it's playing strength, as Ed is developing this all the time. Tasc's
engine, The King, is quite strong too, but not really state of the art
anymore and more important, not in development anymore, since Johan de
Koning no longer works with Tasc, as I've been told. I could be wrongly
informed though so don't pin me down on this one. Fact is that Johan de
Koning told in a dutch magazine after the dutch championship last year
that The King did not get any stronger lately. When I look at Tascbase
2.0 and 2.1, the development is small, and I don't think there will be a
Tascbase for Windows.

Tascbase as it is now however has everything you need as a database. It
has a collection of 400,000+ games and you can search in every way you
like i.e. player, gamelength, country, title, Elo, time, date, opening,
board pattern etc.
So the acccent on Tascbase is.... on its database functions. The King
in Tascbase i.e. can not use more than 8MB hash, which I find a pity.

Because Rebel9 and Tascbase 2.1 can exchange data through PGN files,
they can add to each other's functionality.

The new Rebel10 however will have more database functions as well, and a
much bigger database included, see www.rebel.nl and this database is
constantly updated, and that is a big pro.

So concluding, I use both Rebel9 and Tascbase2.1, and enjoy this
combination very much.

Kind regards, Ernst-Jan.
