No, because you can't use those "on the fly".  If you use gzip/bzip, they
compress the entire file.  To read the last byte, you have to uncompress
the whole thing.  When Eugene wrote the compression interface, he asked me
to find the optimal blocksize.  I ran my older quad for a few days compressing
and uncompressing with various blocksizes to settle on 8K.  Now we can read
in any 8K block and decompress just that part, which makes on-the-fly
decompression possible.  As gzip does it, it would be hopelessly slow.
