Subject: Offtopic linux question

My program bugged out and flooded my gamelog with a bunch
of junk.  I want to salvage the log, if possible.  Unfortunately
the log is too big to fit into RAM.

Is there a cool way to dump, say, the first N bytes or the
first N lines of a file into another file?
