Hi,

no, Thief (highly configurable, good for variants) is a program only used to
play chess online, like Blitzin (the icc client) , CClient (very nice "lists"
but the board takes a while to get used to - no longer developed on), Freak (the
first client of the now uscl-developer, excellent grafics) , Icarus (built in
client-to-client speech support !!, for icc), JavaBoard (play without
downloading, on icc) , ChessMachine (as good as blitzin, some say, but for fics)
, slicks (the old interface which still works for win3.1, very configurable,
also called "chessbd").

Most of those Clients have some additional features compared to winboard when it
comes to actually playing on the server on your own (like seek graphs, shortcut
buttons, multiple boards).

But only winboard is so enourmously flexible to let you play yourself, with an
engine, against an engine offline ...
