there is IMO no reason to play big versus small other than doing it for fun. for sensation. for pr-gags. there is no reason e.g. because i still have many many dedicated chess computers with cpu-speed and power arround the palm. the diamond 2 and the vancouver 68020 are in the class of the palm. they have more hash, but my palm100 is a little faster, although the palm gambit-tiger has NO permanent brain so far, it beats them IMO. we took care in berlin to have the same speed of the machines, so we get results that can be related very good. but there was also FUN reason to do the palm - pc stuff. people using the games or results to present elo do IMO misuse and exploit the machines, and, to a certain degree, misinform us. because it makes not much sense to relate a cpu with 12 mhz with a cpu of today doing 1000 or 1500 or 2000 mhz. relating elo lists of different time is a problem, BECAUSE the elo is not showing playing strength , i mean: absolute playing strength. if you take laskers games, and create an elo. and you take the dedicated computer chess times, and create elos. and you take the 1200 Mhz machines and create an elo you don't get ELO values you could easily compare and relate with. because the lists do not show STRENGTH in the number if you relate it with elo numbers that came OUT OF THE SYSTEM. laskers elo of yesterday is not compatible with kasparovs elo of today. and diamond2 elo is not compatible with athlon 1200 of todays ssdf-lists. but: gambit-tiger14.6 palm is compatible with diamond 2.
