Thank You, Aloisio Ponti Lopes and everyone who tried to answer my question, as to why IBM and other major computer manufacturers have avoided the AMD chips in favour of Intel. I'm aware that there is more heat produced by the AMD processors, but now I see why IBM and competitors have dropped the AMD line of chips for the time bieng. I wouldn't want the hassles of AMD heating problems either! The Intel P-4 processor may not be as fast as AMD per given Mgh. but it can run much faster and cooler, so IMO may be the wiser choice. The effects on chess ratings for PC chess programmes would be negligible, I feel. Regards, Terry
