The main difference is that with the TBGEN application you can generate a large number of tablebases (all the 3, 4 and 5 piece tablebases -- about 7 GB) whereas the Fritz 6 CD only contains a small number of tablebases (all the 3 and 4 piece tablebases and a few selected 5 piece tablebases) for your convenience. The Generating tablebases is a long weary process, as you've already found out. You also need a lot of memory. If you only want the tablebases that are already on the CD, copy them from the CD. If you want more, generate them. Or, alternatively, download them from ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/TBs
