Somebody will have an independence day during the event as well. Last year, in august, you were the only american operator.( How many were there in London ?) Problem is that there are no sponsors in the US. As you might have noticed, there hasn't been a major event in the US for over 10 years. Given the choice between a sponsored event in Europe, or an unsponsored event in a country that hasn't been able to organize an event in over 10 years, I guess the choice was easy. Face it, europe seems to be the only place where computerchess lives ( with the exception of Australia maybe ) so it's the only place where you can find sponsors. Has there been a national championship outside Europe and Australia the last 10 years ? Irony is that the ICCA charter (alternate championships between europe and america ) feels to me to, was meant to "protect" europe ie make sure that the americans would not organise all the events. Now they do not return the favor. Making sure you are being treated fair is easier than treating fair.
