Deeper blue already beated the world champion in 1997 so 2018 does not seem to
be correct.

If you talk only about micros than program seems to be close to do it(Chess
tiger 14 did performance of almost 2800 in the last tournament).

I believe that deeper search of more 5 plies with no software improvement is
more than enough to beat the world champion and with branching factor of 3
I expect it to happen before 2018.

The only hope for humans is if the world champion learns a lot from chess
programs to improve his(her) game.

I also expect big software improvement so I will be surprised if programs cannot
beat the world champion before 2010.
