I see 3 solutions to do this, none of them satisfactory : 1) add free registration -> each user must register before posting : I can't see the reason why complicate things with this. 2) move the search engine to icdchess and they take care of security there : I don't want to do this ... yet, I like it where is on my site where I have direct access and can do fast changes and I have 100% control. Someone would have to argue with me a long long time and have rock solid arguments to talk me into it. 3) (extremly unlikely) icdchess gives me the login/passwords of actual users of ccc and I setup the login process locally : I don't want to be burdened with this and you most definetely don't want this ! It's very unsecure among other things. I see no solution to add a login process only for registered CCC users. >I think that it would be a good idea to add a password control for good measure >in order to make sure that people who read the archives are signed up or will >sign up for this service! Again : My opinion is that passwords were used in CCC to weed from here malicious posters, not to prevent anyone from reading posts. So I really see no point in restricting access to the search engine.
