I guess Tom wasn't born at that time. :)
Until today, the PSP (Program Segment Prefix) of ".com" DOS executables contains
CP/M-like jumps to the system. That's the way CP/M programs had to call the
system.
In other words: CP/M compatibility (or fossils of it) is still built in the
latest versions of Windows, including XP!
