Mr. Inmann Werner was inquiring about Roland Pfister's "baby", i.e. his
chess program. That program is Patzer and I have been operating it on
FICS for some time now -- played more than 650 games with it, using Tim
Mann's Winboard. Roland has made the program very strong, and this
latest version (dated June 2) appears to have surpassed all previous
ones -- a big boost in terms of strength: last night and today it has
scored 3.5-4.5 vs Snoot, the second best computer system on FICS (Crafty
15.8, dual proc, Pentium II/300, 256 MB RAM). My machine is an AMD
K6/233, 128 MB RAM, 24 tbbases, 10 bbases). I believe that the scores
will only get better as we weed out the bad lines in the book that lead
to giving up pawns in the opening for more aggressive play. This might
work out at longer t-controls, but not at blitz where Crafty just clings
on to the extra pawn. Anyway, here's one nice win from today; it is
astonishing how Patzer dispensed with the mighty Crafty program in this
game -- in the end it announced a mate in 11...
