I also remember a ChessMaster version for the Mac not so long ago. All of these initiatives weren't followed by a successor and you can ask yourself the question about the reason and that's why I never seriously considered to go for another OS as there is no potential to invest. At times there are great initiatives to break the monopoly position of MS. I remember IBM's try with OS2 Warp and it was greatly pushed by IBM, one of the biggest companies on our little planet. Yet OS2 Warp did not make it and for all those companies who invested OS2 became a money loser. Now we have the free Linux and it is popular among lots of people. But the same problem remains, a too small market to invest. Still there is a little hope, MS perhaps will be obliged by justice (maybe it is already a fact by now) to reveal the source code of its Windows base. It will allow other software companies to develop alternative operating systems which will guarantee the compatibility with all available software. It is the perfect solution for us the end-users, lower prices too. Ed
