I seriously doubt that. Will there be a cct in 2008 ? Possible. But if the cct's some day shall be able to replace the now official tournaments lots of additional work has to be done still IMHO. I have no strong opinions myself as I am not one of the programmers - simply would like to see some issues discussed. From what I have seen the first cct's were very friendly events. I don't think there was any cheating. Better (or clearer) rules don't spoil the fun though. They simply avoid unnecessary fights and add credibility to the event. >On November 18, 2001 at 06:39:16, Peter Berger wrote: > >>Hallo, >> >>I don't know who is in charge of the tournament this time and I am not sure if >>this already has been discussed and decided - just a few questions. >> >>It seems there will probably be about 40 competitors in the cct-4 . While it might be a little more difficult to hook up the Fritz GUI to ICC it's certainly a piece of cake for the programmer or his "official operator" ;-). Manual operation is asking for trouble and opening the field for all kind of debatable behaviour. As the major parts of programs are WB-compatible anyway and certainly all who want to participate and still have no opening book one could think about demanding the opponents to autokib in a channel or at the board. This could be discussed and decided by the programmers. >>b.) Rules for disconnections ? >I think the certified participants are no Disconnectors! Again, just to make sure there is no misunderstanding - I didn't mean to suggest that. Rules make life easier , not harder. >Di we have at cct3 any problems with disconnectors? No. There were some problems at cct-1 though as Vincent Diepeveen had a very crappy connection then and was disconnected cillions of times. Some suggestions ( not very properly thought to the end): 1.Everybody has to show up 10 minutes before the start of first round in channel 64 . If someone has not arrived 5 minutes after the scheduled start he is out. (Think about it - sounds much harder than it is ) . Starting late is a pain for the spectators _and_ the others and I have left a 15 minute window. 2. If someone gets disconnected he must be there to resume his game 10 minutes later the latest. Else it is a forfeit. ( This could be overruled by the ICC referee if there were any known problem) . > >>c.) Rules for newcomers ? >in work > By whom ? No offense at all . But I wish such things would be discussed by the programmers - CCC would be a good place. Only with the purpose to have consense and more credibility to the event. Maybe you could open a specific thread about time control or certain rules ? You can't please anybody - but it can't hurt to try :-) Many thanks for your efforts and good luck for the upcoming cct. Regards, pete
