Can you imagine what a bore it would be if we all sat around frowning? I went to Germany for a while once, saying "gutenmorgen" to everyone I met, like some sort of idiot savant. He did not say that he disliked it. In fact, I am quite sure that he did like it. You read in-between the lines and saw something that wasn't there.
