First, let me say that I did not intend to promote Bugnosis. I also don't see
any really useful functionality in their software. They were merely a
convenient spot with a definition of what a "web bug" is. They also have
confliction definitions on their site, after looking at it further.

From their site:
>What exactly is a Web Bug?
>
>A Web bug is a graphic on a Web page or in an e-mail message designed to >monitor who is reading the page or message. Web bugs are often invisible >because they are typically only 1-by-1 pixels in size.

This definition is closer to the truth, in my opinion.

You mentioned Privacy Policies. After visiting the counter.fide.com site I can
find no mention of any privacy policy that they have in effect.

They do state :

5 Reasons to Sign-up for the Top Chess Sites Rating

 • You will get full information on visitors of your web site.
 • You will get information where your users come from.
 • You will be able to trace the most popular users' routes throughout your web
site.
 • Stay always informed about the dedicated users of your web site.
 • Control your advertising campaign.

There is no mention of what they will or will not do with this information they
are collecting. I have no qualms whatsoever in blocking their counters, which I
will resume immediately.

Now email me your credit card numbers, Andy. I won't "necessarily" do anything
bad with them. ;)
