Subject: Fritz 5 vs memory

I am running Fritz on a laptop p90 and I do not think it is very
impressive with typical fritz mark test of 56 @ mid 30 seconds with a
search speed typical of mid eighty's nodes/.second.

For example it struggles with Chesmaster 5000 on a 486 dx2-66 with only
12 meg RAM.

I am going to buy a desk top 400 mhz pentium with 128 mb RAM. I am told
by my systems engineer that Windows 95 & 98 does not support beyond 64
Mb Ram. He does tell me that Windows NT does.

1) What can be said about performance on a p400 128 mb RAM Ie Fritz
mark data running with NT.
2) What can be expected with Fritz same computer except windows 95 and
64 mb RAM?

3) Maybe 1 and 2 above does not perform better than a p333, 64 mb RAM
and windows 95

New subject:

Again, not impressed with Fritz on my P100 laptop. What performance
increase will PowerBook make ? Is powerbook anymore than just a enhanced
opening ? Does it provide value in mid and end game over Fritz standard
tree ?

Would copying Fritz's Databook to the C drive improve its performance.
Ie instead of purchasing PowerBook perhaps this will give roughly same
increase in performance (if there is any).

Bottom Line, I want to give Fritz all the help it can. It is my guess
the program is modeled for speed, speed, speed & speed with not too much
chess knowledge, relying on search tree and powerbooks. Am I wrong ?

I am not mad at the program---I love it, exceptional learning and study
tool, the best I suspect

Thanks, I know you do not like posting questions.
