No It can use selective search to find mate without proving the shortest mate for the opponent. It is important for it to prove the shortest mate for black because black tries to force mate. It is not important for it to prove the shortest mate for white and finding a mate for white is enough to prove that Kb7 is wrong. It is easy to suspect that white has a forced mate by 0-0-0 because short analysis with only material evaluation can show big advantage for white by this move. Uri
