Hi Jorge, When I enquired of the SSDF, admittedly about 12 months ago, why most matches were 40 games and some matches were more than 40 games the answer was (more or less). "These matches are scheduled for 40 games, but are played automatically, so if when the operator stops the match there are more than 40 games, the highest even number is used, so as not to waste the time already used." If you look at the latest SSDF schedule you will find NO 50 game matches amongst the top 15 competitors (I looked no further). There are some 42 & 44 game matches, but no 50 game matches. It does not matter if they are equal score after 40 games, the games are to derive a comparative rating, and not to decide a match winner. >.... the SSDF >is one of the most respectable rating system available.
