However, it is optimized for the features and quirks of the x86 and PC architecture. (many other freeware engines are Windows only). OS X native: I don't know of any yet. Has anyone ported XBoard to Quartz? Classic: Hiarcs is the strongest, but the UI is crufty. Sigma chess is probably the most featureful, though weak. I have no idea whether they actually run in classic mode under OS X. Ian
