WinXP is a good upgrade for most people running Win98, ME, or NT4 (who have enough hardware), but not worth it if you are already running Win2000 -- unless you have specific games (or whatever) that you know will work under XP but don't work under 2000. >As far as chess programs are concerned, my 2 fav programs, rebel and CM8000 >doesnt even run under it, too bad. > Rebel is a lost cause, sad to say. But CM8000 runs pretty well under XP for most people. >Not to mention my dsl provider software wasnt even compatible. > > Have you considered getting a Cable/DSL router? They've come way down in price, at least in the US, and they are very useful for sharing your connection (among other benefits). Once you get the router working with your provider (was easy in my case), you can add and remove PCs & Macs, change OSs, etc., without affecting your ability to get service. And you don't even have to call the provider to provision a different computer, since your computers are all hidden "behind" your router. In a sense, the router becomes the provider to all your computers, so you have more control. >I installed and uninstalled winxp in the same day, within 6 hours. > >pavs
